Maroon ‘S160’ returns to NYMR after overhaul

BALDWIN ‘S160’ 2-8-0 No. 2253 has returned to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) after a major 2½-year rebuild by Northern Steam Engineering at Stockton. 

It arrived at New Bridge Yard on February 13 sporting an attractive lined maroon livery. 

‘S160’ No. 2253 is hauled through Goathland on its way to Grosmont on February 20. ANDREW JEFFERY

On February 20 it was hauled from Pickering to Grosmont, where the overhaul will be completed and commissioning trials undertaken.

In June it is expected to move to the Dartmouth Steam Railway on a 10-year loan. 

No. 2253 was built for the USA Transportation Corps (USATC)  in 1943 and has been owned by Peter Best since its sale by the NYMR in late-2013.
