Overhauled ‘S160’ and ‘S15’ begin running-in at NYMR

RUNNING-IN of two North Yorkshire Moors Railway-based locomotives is underway following the completion of their respective overhauls. 

Peter Best’s former United States Army Transport Corps ‘S160’ 2-8-0 No. 2253 Omaha began the process of testing and acceptance on July 30, just two weeks after making its first independent post-overhaul movements on July 17.

‘S160’ No. 2253 Omaha climbs away from Grosmont in tandem with ‘Lambton Tank’ No. 29 during a running-in turn on July 30.

As might be expected, the first run, and subsequent trials in early-August, threw up some minor issues that required remedying before further runs took place later in the month. 

However, No. 2253’s time on the NYMR will be short as it is expected to move to the Dartmouth Steam Railway once running-in is completed.
