Metrolink services through Manchester city centre were disrupted around 11.00 on December 19 when the pantograph of tram No. 3010 was severely damaged as it arrived at the Shudehill stop, near Victoria station.
An hour later, when this photo was taken, the remains of the pantograph were being secured ready for the set to be towed away.
Services across the city were maintained by the diversion of many services over the Second City Crossing via Exchange Square.

Fortunately, the overhead wires were not damaged in the incident, and engineers on the scene were unable to identify the immediate cause of the failure. TONY MILES
