TICKETS are selling quickly for one of the most eagerly anticipated main line returns of recent years.
After a restoration costing almost £1million at Tyseley Locomotive Works, Stanier ‘Jubilee’ No. 45596 Bahamas will make its comeback with the ‘Bahamas Renaissance’ from Oxenhope to Carlisle on February 9, 2019.
It will be No. 45596’s first main line passenger run since 1994, and is being promoted by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR) – offering a rare chance to travel through from the KWVR to the national network at Keighley.
Bahamas was the first of the four ‘Jubilees’ to be preserved, and occupies a special place in railway history as the last steam locomotive to be modified by BR in its attempts to improve the performance of its steam fleet.
Bahamas received its signature double chimney and blastpipe as late as 1961.
