ENGLISH Electric Type 4 No. D213 Andania returned to the main line in style on August 27, powering a Saphos Trains tour from Crewe to Carlisle via Shap and the Settle-Carlisle line.
It is more than 30 years since it last hauled a passenger train.
The trip was the first of three booked for the immaculate EE heavyweight, which made a series of test runs from Crewe in early- and mid-August prior to its return to passenger duties (see photograph) as part of Jeremy Hosking’s Locomotive Services Ltd fleet.
