First 2018 outing for Hastings DEMU – then rare journey to East Anglia

HASTINGS DEMU No. 1001 made the first of several planned main line trips on March 24, working from Hastings to Hereford via Westbury and Newport.

By the time this issue of The RM is published, it will also have made a rare foray into East Anglia with the ‘West Norfolk Wanderer’ tour to King’s Lynn on April 21.

Highlights of the trip included the Hertford Loop, Hitchin Flyover and the three-mile-long
Middleton Towers freight branch.

On June 16, No. 1001 will also be wandering far from its traditional home ‘turf’ with a 533-mile odyssey from Hastings to Paignton and back.
