‘MANOR’ 4-6-0 No. 7812 Erlestoke Manor was expected to work the last trains of its 10-year boiler certificate on December 31 during a special farewell weekend at the Severn Valley Railway.
The ‘Manor’ had already enjoyed a stay of execution on its ‘ticket’, having had an extension granted back in February that would see the loco continue steaming until the end of the year.
However, all good things must come to an end, and at the time this issue of The RM went on sale the popular performer was ready for its next overhaul to begin down the road at Tyseley Locomotive Works.
No. 7812, minus its tender, is expected to move to Tyseley in early January for a period of around two years.
The Erlestoke Manor Fund (EMF), which owns both No. 7812 and classmate No. 7802 Bradley Manor, has been preparing for the work for some time, and up-front purchases of numerous parts and materials are well underway.
The EMF has also been actively fundraising to meet the cost of the work, with the majority of the projected costs already covered.
