The North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s (NYMR) Southern ‘Schools’ 4-4-0 No. 926 Repton took part in no fewer than three autumn steam galas during September and October, visiting the North West and the East Midlands in the process.

The first event for the Maunsell ‘V’ class was the NYMR’s own 15-engine spectacular on September 27-29 (see p74-75), after which it was dispatched by road to the Great Central Railway (GCR) to play a starring role in the line’s Autumn Gala the following weekend.

Repton was one of a pair of ex-Southern 4-4-0s in service during the October 3-6 event, sharing the spotlight with the National Railway Museum’s Drummond ‘T9’ No. 30120, which had made the journey from Swanage. The two 4-4-0s paired up on a number of services during the four days, while No. 926’s performance on the final Travelling Post Office on the Sunday was a notable climax.
