Calbourne and black ‘Radial’ for Bluebell’s branch gala

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s ex-LSWR ‘O2’ No. W24 Calbourne will be returning to the UK mainland later this month to star at the Bluebell Railway’s March 15-17 Branch Line Weekend.

The visit will be only the second time the Adams-designed 0-4-4T has crossed the Solent in 93 years, the last time being in 2012.

It will be joined at the gala by another LSWR survivor, the National Railway Museum’s Beattie 2-4-0WT No. 30587, which is making its first Bluebell appearance from its Bodmin & Wenford Railway home.

However, if the prospect of seeing a pair of LWSR locomotives together was not enough, the event is offering the unique opportunity to see four of the company’s tank designs together in one place, all in BR livery, and including the sole-surviving Adams ‘Radial’ 4-4-2T No. 30583.
