A new access road, footpath and cycleway will also be created.

Around 70,000 passengers each year are forecast to use the station when it opens in spring 2020.

The station will link Horden into the local and regional rail network, served by hourly Arriva Rail North trains in each direction, providing links to Sunderland, Newcastle, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough.
