Wandering ‘Warship’ stars at Great Central Railway

CLASS 42 No. D832 Onslaught is making welcome appearances at several heritage railways this year, including the Great Central Railway (GCR).

Following the September 7-9 diesel gala, where it appeared with visiting ‘Deltic’ No. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier, it featured in an East Midlands Railway Photographic Society photo charter on the 10th.

Its next visit was the Dean Forest Railway’s September 14-16 diesel gala, arriving there from the GCR on September 12.For the morning shoot at the GCR it headed seven carriages and displayed 1B 21 and 1B 89 headcodes, representing London Paddington to Bristol trains.

In the afternoon, as seen here at Swithland Junction, it took charge of a lengthy rake of vans. This was reminiscent of 6V 02, the Poole to Severn Tunnel Junction working, which was usually booked for a ‘Warship’. JAMIE SQUIBBS
