Glorious ‘Hoover’ being returned to its former glory

FORMER National Collection Class 50 No. 50033 Glorious arrived at the Severn Valley Railway on May 31.

It is owned by Vintage Trains, Tyseley, but currently in the care of the Class 50 Alliance.

Glorious is on an initial three-year lease, and receiving considerable attention in the Kidderminster diesel workshops to restore it to working condition.It has received extensive cab repairs at one end, and is seen in the Kidderminster depot on June 27. This is part of the efforts to have the loco ready for the October 4-6 gala marking 50 years of Class 50s.

No fewer than 11 of the surviving 18 Class 50s in preservation are expected to be present, forming the greatest number seen together at one location since disposal by BR. CHRIS MILNER
