New line opens in Dorset

by

CHRIS BULLEN, the long-time former owner and operator of Poole Park Railway, has wasted no time in establishing a new 10¼in gauge public line at Honeybrook, a farm park, which is on the B3078 road, a couple of miles north of Wimborne Minster, Dorset.

The former Poole Park stock on the first section of the new line at Honeybrook comprises three carriages and 0-4-2DH Elizabeth (Exmoor 338/2012). Powered by a Kubota engine it is believed to be one of just three diesel locos of this type built by Exmoor. Propelled out from Honeybrook platform and hauled back, the train is seen returning from the present terminus at Springhill platform on May 29. PETER NICHOLSON

The initial 1,000m of track were laid in a matter of days, with the first trains run on April 8. The line is to be doubled in length with additional facilities added, including a loco shed and workshop.

There is a cash-only admission charge to the park, which is open on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, 10am-6pm, and includes one train ride. See website www.honeybrook.org.
