THEN & NOW: Years Apart… Bestwood Park Junction, Nottingham

Our occasional series of then and now ‘views’ normally show where the railway has been closed, and in many cases the trackbed returned to nature. The pairing of images on this occasion shows the transformation of a rundown railway to a busy local rail and tram operation. 

The driver of a Robin Hood line service bound for Nottingham on August 23, 1993, formed of Class 156 No. 156414, is stopping to hand the token to the Bestwood Pack Jct signalman at the end of single line from Newstead Abbey. The vegetation growing on the right of the picture is where the colliery sidings used to be located.
