Council gives green light to Buckfastleigh stock shed

PLANS by the South Devon Railway (SDR) for the construction of a new £157,000 rolling stock storage shed have been approved by Buckfastleigh Town Council.

The Heritage Rolling Stock Conservation Centre at Buckfastleigh is to be an open-sided structure, finished in the traditional livery employed by the Great Western. SDR

The Heritage Rolling Stock Conservation Centre will be sited at the north end of Buckfastleigh station on what the railway calls the ‘head-shunt and loop spur’, parallel to the A38 embankment.

The open-sided structure will provide covered accommodation to protect the SDR’s heritage rolling stock from the elements, which are currently stored in the open.

With as yet no dedicated Carriage & Wagon workshop on site, volunteers have been struggling to keep pace with the rate of deterioration of carriage bodywork.
