THE Spa Valley Railway, a leader of high-quality classic traction events, stages more special diesel days than most other major heritage railways.
The August 2-5 diesel gala featured an impressive timetable, with a wide selection of locos and trains, including several rare and unusual workings (RM Aug, p91).
Stars of the event were the two first-time visitors: Deltic Preservation Society’s No. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier, which missed the 2017 event, and Class 17 ‘Clayton’ No. D8568, from the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway.

The ‘Rat’ is staying for three months and will operate regularly on green timetable days, as well as a Class 25 running weekend on September 22-23.
