SCOTRAIL has taken delivery of the first fully refurbished Inter City125 set. Power cars Nos. 43169 and 43183, along with four trailer cars, arrived from Wabtec Doncaster at Haymarket depot on August 18.
ScotRail will eventually have a fleet of 26 HSTs formed of 17 five- and nine four-car sets, and used to connect Glasgow and Edinburgh with Perth, Stirling, Dundee, Inverness and Aberdeen, providing a step change in the accommodation provided by the Class 170 DMUs currently in use.
It is a comprehensive project, using redundant HSTs displaced by the introduction of Hitachi Class 80x trains on the Great Western, but the timescales have slipped because of the need to resolve a number of technical issues.
