CONSTRUCTION of a station building in the style of the original structure is expected to begin at the Welsh Highland Railway’s (WHR) Waunfawr station in September, with completion anticipated next spring.
The original building survived in a ruinous state until revival of the WHR in the 1990s. Prior to construction of the new platform at Waunfawr, the derelict building was dismantled with a view to eventual reconstruction, but the large stone blocks ended up being incorporated into a retaining wall.
However, some smaller stone was kept, and may be employed in the new building, the design for which has been prepared by Rob Chambers, the architect for the new and non-traditional station at Caernarfon.

The current wooden buildings on Waunfawr platform will be stored and could be re-purposed at WHR halts currently bereft of waiting shelters.
