HEATON Park-based Stockport Corporation No. 5 has entered the final stage of its overhaul, with the finishing touches now being made ahead of its return to service.
The Dick, Kerr open-top four-wheeler received a partial repaint by Heritage Painting last November (RM Dec).
Manchester Transport Museum Society (MTMS) volunteers have undercoated and painted the platform canopy at the north end of the car, together with the front and rear of the staircase, and the rear of the dash panel, which has made it possible for the resistance box to be refitted.

A new staircase to replace the one badly water-damaged has been fitted at the southern end of the tram, and Heritage Painting has been back on site to top coat, line out and varnish the staircase stringers.
The top deck has been made water tight and the seating repaired, while below, in the saloon, new ceiling panels have been fitted. The quarter lights have also been installed and sealed with lead to prevent future water ingress.
The plan is for No. 5 to return to service during the summer.
