A new international study has found that train driver is the most searched for job role in the UK.
The research was conducted by Remitly, which provides digital financial services for those who move abroad for work.
It analysed the number of Google searches in over 140 countries for the term ‘how to be a [job]’ to reveal the roles people are most curious about.

Previous versions of the study in 2022 and 2024 found that YouTuber was Britain’s dream job.
However, in England, Scotland and Wales, train driver is now the most researched career, followed by DJ and YouTuber.
The UK’s top 10 dream jobs:
- Train driver
- DJ
- YouTuber
- Pilot
- Actor
- Paramedic
- Police officer
- Vet
- Teacher
- Voice actor
The top job across all countries studied was acting, overtaking pilot for the first time since data collection started. This is followed by pilot and firefighter.
YouTuber is the top career choice of 28 countries globally – the choice of more countries than any other career in the study.
