ALSTOM and Eurostar have been working together to support the donation of
two Eurostar power cars to the National College for High Speed Rail.
The two power cars from SNCB Eurostar set Nos. 3101 and 3102 (built at Washwood Heath, as set UK1) in store at Long Marston. After refurbishment, they will act as ‘Gate Guardians’ for the high-speed colleges in Birmingham and Doncaster. Gate Guardians are quite common in the aviation industry, but it is the first such instance in the UK rail sector. COLIN J MARSDEN
Eurostar had previously decided to retire some of these vehicles, and two power cars – Nos. 3101/3102 – are to be fully refurbished by Alstom and will be placed on display at the two HS2 college campus sites at Birmingham and Doncaster.
The colleges will provide young people with the specialist training, skills and qualifications required to build HS2 and future rail projects.
