PAN-regional transport partnership Midlands Connect has called for greater investment in the region’s railways to match the growth ambitions of its towns, cities and businesses.
Maria Machancoses, of Midlands Connect, in giving evidence to the Transport Select Committee’s inquiry into rail infrastructure investment, said all available statistics show Government investment in railways outside London lags far behind that in the capital.
Midlands Connect (MC) recommends sub-national transport bodies, such as Transport for the North, give greater assistance to Government in long-term planning and decision-making processes for rail investment, and has asked for assurances from Government that regional evidence for the development of transport investment programmes will be considered effectively.
