THE 762 Club’s re-created Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (L&BR) Baldwin 2-4-2T No. 762 Lyn was launched at L&BR’s Woody Bay station on September 29 at an event for 762 Club supporters.
The nameplate on the fully painted locomotive was unveiled by Sir William McAlpine, with Lyn then starring in L&BR’s September 30-October 1 autumn gala.
The original Lyn was built in 1898 and scrapped in 1935 when the old L&BR closed.

The concept of building a new Lyn dates from 2006, with serious building starting in 2011.
Construction has involved preparing 7,000 drawings, producing more than 25,000 components, and spending £650,000. The 762 Club still needs to raise around £25,000 to cover recent costs.
