Wendy at ‘Hanworth Loop’

by

HAMPSHIRE Narrow Gauge Railway Trust’s Bagnall 0-4-0ST Wendy will provide steam at Hampton & Kempton Waterworks Railway’s (HKWR) ‘Hanworth Loop’ line this year.

Wendy will be covering for HKWR resident Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST Darent, which leaves at the end of May for boiler repairs, including fitting a new front tubeplate, and seems unlikely to return this year.

Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST Darent hauls an empty stock train around the snowy Hampton & Kempton Waterworks Railway’s ‘Hanworth Loop’ on March 19, to celebrate the day a lease was signed with Thames Water (RM March). The lease grants access southwards across 1½ miles of private Thames Water land to the outskirts of Hampton on which an extended line can be constructed. The railway can now apply for planning permission and start clearing the extension route. HAMPTON & KEMPTON WATERWORKS RAILWAY

Hampshire NGRT’s other steam loco – Hunslet 0-4-0ST Cloister, currently visiting Amerton Railway – will appear at Ffestiniog Railway’s ‘Hunslet 125’ (see story above) and has visits to Bursledon Brickworks (replacing a projected visit by Phil Mason’s Kerr, Stuart 0-4-0T Diana) and Richmond Light Railway lined up for this summer.
