Class 33/1 Preservation’s ‘Crompton’ No. 33108 is currently based on the Severn Valley Railway, for use as required. One such occasion was on December 26 when the booked DMU failed. It was then going to be a DMU drag, but after the DMU had been taken to Kidderminster it was found the lighting had also failed, so Mk 1 coaches were used instead, as seen heading along the embankment towards Bewdley. The same train ran the following day, but was steam-hauled by 0-6-0PT No. 7714. ALISTAIR GRIEVE

The big event is the May 17-19 diesel festival. Visiting locos confirmed are Class 37
No. 37688, following an extended visit to the Mid-Norfolk Railway; Class 40 No. 40135 and Class 42 ‘Warship’ D832 Onslaught, both from the East Lancashire Railway; Class 45 ‘Peak’ No. 45060 Sherwood Forester, courtesy Pioneer Diesel Locomotive Group; and the Deltic Preservation Society’s Class 55 No. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier.
