RTC confirms two Settle & Carlisle steam specials for August ’68 anniversary

Railway Touring Company will run two steam-hauled specials over the Settle-Carlisle Line on August 11 to mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary ‘15 Guinea Special’ of 1968.

One of West Coast Railways’ Stanier ‘Jubilee’ 4-6-0s, either No. 45690 Leander or No. 45699 Galatea, will haul the ‘Cumbrian Mountain Express’ from Carnforth to Carlisle via Shap, returning south via the S&C, after a break in the border city.

Haulage to and from London Euston will be by electric locomotive.

On the same day, either No. 46233 Duchess of Sutherland or ‘Jubilee’ No. 45596 Bahamas will power ‘The Waverley’ from York to Carlisle, picking up at Leeds, Shipley, Keighley and Skipton.
