Public raise £10,000 in a week after SVR vandal attack

MORE than £10,000 was pledged in seven days to the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) at the start of the year to rectify damage caused by vandals over Christmas.

Volunteers arrived at Kidderminster on Boxing Day morning to discover that 1922-built GNR Gresley Corridor Composite No. 2701 and 1938-built GWR Collett Corridor Third No. 1146 had received the unwanted attention of vandals armed with spray paint during the Christmas day shutdown.

Large sections of both vehicles had been daubed with graffiti, the paint on No. 1146 covering areas of the windows.

Volunteers immediately rallied to put the damage right, and No. 2701 – owned by SVR Charitable Trust (SVRCT) – was taken into the Carriage & Wagon paint shop for work to begin.
