Pioneer LMS diesel project powers ahead

by

VOLUNTEERS from the Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society (IDRS) carried out a full clean and inspection of English Electric 16SVT Mk1 power unit in August, including the four Brown Boveri turbo chargers.

The society is aiming to build a replica of pioneer LMS diesel-electric No. 10000.

More servicing will be carried out in October, and this will give society members the opportunity to see the power unit, which is normally covered over at Peak Rail, Rowsley South, along with Class 58 No. 58022, which will form the basis of the new-build loco.

Trustees continue to discuss what is to be done with the unwanted components from the Class 58 when it is dismantled.

The cabs will be auctioned and some parts may be useable on No. 10000, while others could be sold to other groups.
