THE tender belonging to Stanier ‘Jubilee’ No. 45596 Bahamas has been fitted with an all-new tender tank at the Bahamas Locomotive Society’s Ingrow base at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
The new tank has been built by Hill & Websters Ltd, of Ashbourne, using Bahamas’ old tender as a pattern. It was lowered onto the overhauled tender chassis using the KWVR’s resident Cravens 50T steam crane, marking another milestone in the 4-6-0’s lottery-funded comeback.
Much of the work has been completed in the society’s workshops by BLS volunteers, who have also been carrying out overhaul work on the locomotive’s motion, boiler clacks and regulator rod.

The tender will be sent to Tyseley Locomotive Works to join the rest of No. 45596 during the first quarter of 2017, while the old one has been sold to the KWVR for potential repair and re-use in the future.
Work at Tyseley has been concentrated on the boiler, with the bottom three-quarters of the door plate now replaced on the back of the Belpaire firebox and a new throat plate fitted.
Work continues on re-staying the firebox, with a hydraulic test set to follow.
