OPEN access freight operation has started in Greece after the launch of services by logistics firm Goldair Cargo, working with Austrian Railways (ÖBB) subsidiary Rail Cargo Group.
The new operator currently has two locos, both formerly with Greek national operator OSE, which now carry a version of ÖBB’s red Rail Cargo livery.
From July, the company started operating freight trains from Idomeni, on the Macedonian/Greek border, to the Greek port of Thessaloniki.

Rail Cargo Group is also planning to operate through freight services using its own traction or crews from Germany to Thessaloniki and the port of Piraeus (Athens) via Bulgaria.
The passenger and freight operations of Greek national operator OSE were privatised by the Greek government in 2017 and are now owned by Italian national operator Trenitalia.
