by

NEW polystyrene patterns for ‘Hall’ No. 4930 Hagley Hall’s replacement cylinders have been sent to Shakespeare Foundry in Preston for casting, which should begin on

The result was a fully functioning 3D digital model of a ‘Hall’ front end, which proved the design worked. It is the first time such a technique has been used to create a new cylinder design, and paves the way for its adoption for future projects.

The new patterns were manufactured by polystyrene specialists Premier Patterns, and subject to successful casting, the Friends of Loco 4930 Hagley Hall hope to have the new cylinder castings on display at the Severn Valley Railway’s Open House Weekend in Bridgnorth Works on April 7-8.

■ At the end of January Premier Patterns also completed the new cylinder patterns for Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd’s ‘2884’ 2-8-0 No. 3850, currently under overhaul at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.
