Llangollen Railway works last train to temporary Corwen East terminus

SERVICES into the Llangollen Railway’s temporary western terminus at Corwen East came to an end on November 4 as the railway prepares for the opening of the new station at Corwen Central next year.

The final train to depart Corwen East was the 15.50 to Llangollen hauled by ‘2884’ 2-8-0 No. 3802, which carried a special commemorative headboard and Welsh flags to mark the occasion.

The temporary platform had been in use since October 2014 when the two-mile extension from Carrog to Corwen opened.

Work on the new terminus is making good progress, with the walls for the six-coach platform 1 almost complete.

Once this is finished, the infilling of the area to create the island platform will resume, funded largely by contributions to the Railway’s Tenner for a Tonne appeal, which has reached its initial £10,000 target.
