Last Fowler diesel loco in UK industry still operational

by

PLASMOR Ltd continues to use a smart and well-maintained Fowler Class 422 0-4-0DH (4220038 of 1966) at its Heck Works, Great Heck, North Yorkshire.

This is believed to be the last remaining Fowler-built diesel loco in industrial service in the UK.
Fowlers were once very numerous in industry, right across the UK, and could be found in small works’ sidings to large industrial complexes.

Plasmor’s 0-4-0DH Fowler 4220038 heads a train of PNA wagons being loaded with blocks at Heck Works on October 6. This loco was seen by many on television in February 2001 when visible in the distance of scenes showing the aftermath of the Great Heck rail disaster, which occurred on the East Coast Main Line alongside this site.
