THE 6201 Society, owners of LMS ‘Princess Royal’ Pacific No. 6201 Princess Elizabeth, is reeling after a visit from the boiler inspector left them with a demand to have the Pacific’s boiler lifted and a catalogue of repairs to complete.
Princess Elizabeth is currently out of traffic undergoing a major winter maintenance programme at the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust’s West Shed at Swanwick Junction, Midland Railway-Butterley.
The work list already included the replacement of the small boiler tubes and the re-tyring of the tender wheelsets, but the hope was to have the work completed in around four months before the start of
No. 6201’s busy main line season. The news that the loco’s boiler needs to come out is therefore a bitter blow.

“We’re currently waiting on the boiler inspector’s reports, which will tell us precisely what we need to do.
“However, we expect it will cost around £9,000 to lift the boiler and de-tube it,” said 6201 Society chairman, Clive Mojonnier.
