Golden ochre-liveried Class 14 No. D9551 was sent out to replace the blue ‘King’, but that also failed at Bridgnorth while waiting to head the 12.40 to Kidderminster.

No. D3586 hauled the train as far as Highley, where Class 50 No. 50049 Defiance was waiting to take over and work it through to Kidderminster. It was due to arrive there at 13.50, but pulled in two hours late, at 15.50.

The two diesels which worked the 12.40 Bridgnorth-Kidderminster – Nos. D3586 and 50049 – are seen side-by-side at Highley during the swap over. Picture: STEVE WIDDOWSON
