THE Great Western Society will unveil its newly completed Churchward ‘Saint’ 4-6-0 No. 2999 Lady of Legend to the public during a special weekend on November 17-18, but not as one might expect.
The ‘Saint’, which will be turned out in early British Railways black livery, will not be appearing as Lady of Legend, but with a different name and number on each side.

On one side it will carry the identity of No. 2908 Lady of Quality, which was withdrawn by BR in December 1950, and on the other that of No. 2983 Redgauntlet, which ended its days at Tyseley in March 1946.
The plates for No. 2908 are in the possession of the Great Western Trust, but the No. 2983 plates (which will feature red backgrounds) are replicas.
