First runs for Keighley & Worth pioneer as 50th anniversary approaches

THE Keighley & Worth Valley Railway’s Ivatt’ ‘2MT’ 2-6-2T No. 41241 made its first
post-overhaul runs beyond Haworth yard on May 14 as the railway’s 50th anniversary gala fast approaches.

During the late-afternoon the locomotive ran up and down the line from Haworth yard to Oxenhope, then down to Mytholmes and back.

Altogether, No. 41241 made more than 10 runs up and down the line, working well in to the evening.

The tests runs were deemed a success, and work will now focus on getting the loco ready for the visit of Fowler/Stanier 4-6-0 No. 46100 Royal Scot on June 25-27.

To meet the high demand for seats during the ‘Scot’s’ visit, the KWVR will once again turn out an eight-coach train, including two Pullmans, which will be top-and-tailed by No. 41241.
