SCOTRAIL Alliance has completed the first stage of its work to electrify the Stirling-Dunblane-Alloa route in central Scotland. Overhead power lines between Greenhill Junction, Polmont Junction and Grangemouth Junction to Larbert Junction went live on May 1, with erection of masts and portals advancing quickly between Larbert and Dunblane, and wiring completed on the Stirling to Alloa branch.
Passengers on the route have been disrupted by evening and weekend electrification work since September 2016, but all further work will take place overnight, allowing the normal timetable to resume throughout the week. Electric trains are expected to start operating between Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunblane and Alloa during 2019.
The £120million rebuild of Glasgow’s Queen Street station – also part of the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) – passed another milestone in May with the extension of platform 1.
