THE 79-day, £200million project to upgrade track and signalling at Derby station is nearing completion.
CrossCountry (XC) services returned to the station on September 3, and East Midlands Trains regional services to and from Nottingham and Crewe are also serving the city again.
A replacement bus service is now in operation between Derby and Matlock, and a temporary timetable also remains in place for EMT journeys between Derby and Chesterfield and Derby and London.

However, the return of XC trains between Birmingham and the North East/Scotland to Derby is, for the moment, at the expense of extended journey times, with up to 30 minutes being added to schedules.
More than 6,000 metres of new track is being laid, and a simplified track layout is being introduced to reduce conflicting movements and minimise delays, along with new signalling and platforms.
Extra staff have been deployed at Derby, Long Eaton, Burton-on-Trent and Uttoxeter to assist passengers and provide free treats for those using replacement buses.
The work at Derby will finish in the early hours of October 8, and the full timetable, introduced in May 2018, will return on all routes.
