Valiant makes it 11 ‘Hoovers’ for SVR Class 50 Golden Jubilee event

No. 50015 Valiant has been confirmed as part of the impressive line up for the Severn Valley Railway’s (SVR) upcoming Class 50 Golden Jubilee gala event, at which 11 Class 50s could be in operation.

Volunteers are working against the clock to ensure all available locos are operable in time for the event, which takes place between October 4-6, and brings the curtain down on a year-long programme of events to mark the 50 years since the locos first entered service. Kidderminster TMD has resembled Old Oak Common of late, with numerous Class 50s undergoing maintenance and overhaul.

One of the major milestones was achieved in mid-August when No. 50044 Exeter undertook its first successful test runs following the installation of a power unit from withdrawn Portuguese Class 1800 No. 1807.

The engine change followed a serious failure of 50044 in 2012, and a significant amount of conversion work has taken place to enable the recent start up.
