More West Midlands multiple units receive a fresh new look

INCREASING numbers of West Midland Railway multiple units are appearing in a revised branding.

Class 172 ‘Turbostar’ No. 172342 has been given a substantially revised version of the launch livery applied to sister unit No. 172339 that features a high-gloss purple bodyside finish with a gold-coloured cab front, doors and carriage ends.

Class 170 No. 170503 slows for Rugeley Town on July 25 with the 08.42 Birmingham New Street-Rugeley Trent Valley. SIMON POOLE

The version on 172339 had some white in the bodysides and a purple cab ends.

‘Turbostar’ unit Nos. 170503/506 and Class 323 Nos. 323202/204/209/212/213 have also been given an interim livery with the gold around the cab and on the doors, but no purple, just retaining the grey and black of former franchisee London Midland.
