AWARDS to preservation groups, societies and individuals to recognise their achievements in specific categories were presented at the annual dinner of the Heritage Railway Association in Birmingham on February 10.
Barrow Hill Roundhouse won the Mortons Media (Heritage Railway) Interpretation Award for the conservation and restoration of what was once a common, but now unique, key part of British Railway heritage, while its project leader Mervyn Allcock won The Railway Magazine award for his vision, drive, determination and passion over a 30-year period, culminating in the realisation of the Barrow Hill Roundhouse.
Sister title Rail Express presented its award to the East Lancashire Railway Diesel Group, for its superb restoration of the last surviving complete Class 105 DMU power car and trailer.

The A1 Steam Trust won two awards, one was the Steam Railway Magazine Award, given jointly with DB Cargo for promoting No. 60163 Tornado to new and wider audiences through national media and cinema, inspiring people with the first 100mph steam run in half a century, as well as the Settle and Carlisle ‘Plandampf’, and the Paddington 2 film.
