THE face of Derby station is changing rapidly as construction of its new island platform progresses rapidly.

Part of Network Rail’s £198million remodelling programme, the new 320-metre long platform will increase the number of through platforms from five to six.

The platform is built on former freight loops, which have been sacrificed to create more capacity for passenger trains as part of the remodelling.

Midland Main Line, CrossCountry and regional services through Derby will be disrupted between July 22 and October 7 while NR replaces 17km of life-expired track and signalling, and remodels the layout of the station to reduce conflicting moves, which cause delays and reduce capacity.
