NATIONAL Collection Class 40 No. D200 (40122) was not able to run at the East Lancashire’s 40s@60 event on April 13-15, but was able to play a prominent part in static displays and line-ups.
It is seen in the bay platform at Bury Bolton Street station the day after the event bearing a replica headboard as carried on the first passenger working for British Railways in 1958.

When No. D200 made its last official BR run 30 years ago, on April 16, 1988, it was adorned with a headboard similar in style to the one carried on the first public working.
The final run on BR was from Liverpool Street to Norwich, almost 30 years to the day she had entered service on that route in 1958.
The ‘Whistler’ then worked from Norwich to York, where it ran light engine from the station to the National Railway Museum.
It was struck off the BR register two days later, and became part of the National Collection.
It is seen arriving at Norwich on that historic final run in BR traffic in 1988 making an interesting comparison with the 2018 view.
