LOCOMOTIVE owner John Cameron has ruled out all chances of Union of South Africa and The Great Marquess remaining in service after 2019 – regardless of how much he is offered to sell them.
“It won’t matter how many noughts are added to the bid price because there’s no such thing as ‘an offer I can’t refuse’,” Mr Cameron told The Railway Magazine. “Money is not the issue… I’ve made up my mind what I’m going to do with my engines and that’s final.”
The ex-LNER pair of ‘A4’ No. 60009 and ‘K4’ 2-6-0 No. 61994 are to become static exhibits at a visitor centre the wealthy Scottish landowner is to establish on his Balbuthie estate in Fife. It is due to open at the end of the decade and will commemorate his achievements not only in railways but in farming and, in his own words, “preserve the Cameron legacy”.

The centre will feature a purpose-built three-road display shed to house the locos and their support coach, BSK No. 35486.
