‘A4’ and ‘Battle of Britain’ reunited at Nene Valley’s green steam weekend

JOHN Cameron’s Gresley ‘A4’ No. 60009 Union of South Africa and the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society’s Bulleid 4-6-2 No. 34081 92 Squadron paired up again for the second time in a year at the Nene Valley Railway’s Steam in Green weekend on September 1-2.

With driver Oli Goodman at the controls, Gresley LNER A4 60009 Union of South Africa works the 12.23 Peterborough NVR to Wansford at Castor.

The two Pacifics were in charge of all trains during the day, double-heading the final service train of the day on the Saturday.

A week later, No. 34081 left Wansford for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway where, following firebox repairs, it was expected to take part in the NYMR’s Autumn Gala on September 28-30.
