CALEDONIAN Sleeper’s new Mk5 carriages made their first trial run to London Euston on January 22 ahead of their launch later this year.
The new stock, costing £100million, will initially be rolled out on the Lowlander route between Glasgow/Edinburgh and London before being introduced onto the Highlander, serving Fort William, Aberdeen and Inverness.
The test run from Glasgow Central (dep 00.14) shadowed the normal sleeper, with calls at Motherwell, Carstairs, Carlisle and Preston as well as Crewe, Rugby and Watford Junction.

It was the first time the new vehicles had made a run over the full route, and were taken onto Wembley depot before returning north ahead of the timetabled sleeper departure to Fort William and Inverness.
The new carriages will take over from the Mk3s on the overnight service from the end of May 2019, ready for the peak summer season.
