European Class 66 visits UK for repairs

A CLASS 66 from the Captrain fleet in Europe has been shipped from Holland to the UK to undergo unspecified repairs.

Captrain is the international European rail transport brand for SNCF Logistics.

Loco No. 6601 (UIC No. 92 88 0266 001-1) arrived at Hull docks from Rotterdam on August 18, sitting on a low loader.

After being placed on UK metals, the loco was hauled to the EMD engineering facility at Longport, Stoke-on-Trent on August 20 by Derby-based Rail Operations Group, using
Class 37 No. 37611.

For the move, the loco was given a TOPS number of 66999 and allocated to a ROG pool.

No. 6601 will return to Holland in September once the contracted work is completed.

However, several other locos are expected to follow the same route to Longport for repairs.

The EMD site is part of Progress Rail at Longport and provides a variety of engineering services for Class 66 and other locos.
