Didcot unveils County of Glamorgan chassis

ALMOST 52 years after the last of the original Hawksworth ‘County’ 4-6-0s was consigned to the scrapyard, the Great Western Society unveiled the rolling chassis of its ‘new’ No. 1014 County of Glamorgan at Didcot on August 27.

The special ‘County Day’ was intended to not only showcase the bottom end of the 4-6-0 to existing supporters of

No. 1014, but also to stimulate new interest in the project. In spite of the prevailing inclement conditions, a large crowd assembled around the Didcot turntable shortly after midday to hear GWS chairman, Richard Croucher, formally unveil the new-build.
