‘Warship’ to star at ‘Poppy Lines’ Mixed Traction Gala

by

THE North Norfolk Railway’s mixed traffic gala from June 15-17 will feature a visit from ‘Warship’ No. D832 Onslaught.

Organisers of this popular ‘Poppy Line’ event have had to work around the non-availability of both visiting locos and the home fleet as the Class 03, 31 and 37 are still undergoing major overhauls. For this reason the annual diesel gala has morphed into a mixed traffic event.

In addition to Onslaught, Direct Rail Services has agreed to provide a locomotive (identity not yet known) and long term visitor Class 20 No. 20227 recently named Sherlock Holmes will be the third diesel loco. Supporting this will be the railway’s Class 101 DMU in its hybrid blue and green liveries.

Adding further interest is Class 08 D3935. After more than six years out of traffic for a major overhaul, the ‘Gronk’ will be officially re-launched into service with a special daily round trip from Weybourne to Holt and back. The inaugural journey on the Friday will be a special celebratory run with a glass of Prosecco included for each lucky special ticket holder. Tickets for this exclusive service will be available from our online shop soon for a £5 supplement per person.

If one shunter wasn’t enough, there will be a second in the form of Class 11 No. 12131 which will be available for hauling at selected times throughout the weekend within station limits.

Two steam locos will be appearing, BR Class 4MT No. 76084 and the ever-popular 9F 2-10-0 No. 92203 Black Prince, and with the diesels, will operate a mixture of passenger and non-passenger trains, including a new parcels service throughout the three-day event.
